New calls for applications and pay-DTT in HD for free

The Higher Audiovisual Council has decided to launch before June 30, 2010, calls for applications on digital terrestrial television for three and two pay channels free channels in high definition.

It endorsed extending the coverage of France  any metropolitan area in the coming weeks.

The CSA was launched June 26, 2009 a public consultation on the use of resources made available by stopping the spread of PPV AB1, Canal J, and, more broadly, on the use of spectrum released by the extinction of analogue broadcasting through the switch to digital.

He approved May 4, 2010, the findings of this consultation which will allow the arrival of new TV services on DTT.

France Ô is available throughout the metropolitan area in the coming weeks. This broadcast will take place on the DTT multiplex R1, while Arte, upon request, will be moved to the multiplex R6.

The resource available on the multiplex R3 will be assigned to a new pay channel. The Council took the view; in light of the conclusions of the Meetings of the pay he had held on March 29 last, it was necessary to enrich the offer of pay TV.

The Council voted on the allocation of multiplex R7 and R8 which will be available in 2011, thanks to resources released by the transition to digital. He has decided today to allocate a portion of the resource R7 two pay channels. To meet the expectations of households holding a high definition receiver, two places will be allocated free channels to high definition, which will enrich the existing supply (TF1, France 2, Arte and M6). The treatment of the remaining resource potential of R7 will be decided later. As for the multiplex R8, it would ensure the dissemination of “compensatory channels” that should be reserved for publishers of TF1, M6 and Canal + in exchange for the extinction of analogue broadcasting.
